Legal Assistant (Korean/English Bilingual) — Family Law | Hybrid, Vancouver

Position Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (open to discussing arrangement with the right candidate) Compensation: $20–$25/hour, depending on experience Schedule: Hybrid — 3 days in-office, 2 days remote (after initial training/onboarding period) Location: Vancouver, BC

About Us

We're a family law practice founded in 2026, built around a simple belief: people going through separation, divorce, and family conflict deserve compassionate, attentive legal support — not just paperwork. We serve a diverse client base, including a significant number of Korean-speaking clients, and we're committed to promoting access to justice, which is why we accept both private clients and legal aid files. As a new and quickly growing firm, we're looking for someone who wants to build something alongside us for the long term, not just fill a seat.

The Role

You'll work closely with the lawyer, directly supporting her day-to-day practice, and you'll often be the first point of contact for clients during one of the most difficult periods of their lives. This role blends legal administrative work with client-facing communication in both English and Korean, and is well-suited to someone who is organized, calm under pressure, and genuinely empathetic. We're looking for someone who sees this as a long-term role they can grow into as our firm grows.

What You'll Do
  • Assist the lawyer directly with day-to-day practice support and file management
  • Answer and direct phone calls and client inquiries in both English and Korean
  • Schedule and coordinate consultations, meetings, and appointments
  • Open, maintain, and close client files, including intake documentation
  • Draft and format correspondence, agreements, and standard legal documents
  • Assist with client billing and invoicing
  • Manage calendars, deadlines, and bring-forward/follow-up systems
  • Liaise with clients, other law firms, mediators, and court registries as needed
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and firm information at all times
  • Support ad hoc administrative and file-related tasks as the practice grows

What We're Looking For
  • Conversational written and spoken Korean is required. Fluency is not required, but you should be comfortable handling routine client communication, scheduling, and basic correspondence in Korean.
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • A calm, empathetic, and non-judgmental manner — many of our clients are navigating difficult family circumstances, and how they're treated on the phone or in the office matters
  • Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail
  • A strong sense of discretion and respect for client confidentiality
  • Comfort working independently in a hybrid setting, with reliable self-management on remote days
  • Comfortable working in a Mac-based office (we use Apple devices exclusively — Mac, iPhone/iPad — not Windows), with basic proficiency in Word and Excel

Experience: Prior experience in a legal or professional services office is an asset, but we're open to candidates without direct legal experience who bring the right combination of language ability, discretion, and organizational skill. Training will be provided — we're looking for the right person to grow with us, not necessarily someone who arrives with every skill in place.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

What We Offer
  • $20–$25/hour, with room to grow as your role and our firm expand
  • Full-time or part-time options available
  • Hybrid flexibility (3 days in-office / 2 days remote)
  • Direct mentorship and hands-on training from the lawyer you'll be supporting
  • A genuine long-term opportunity with a firm that's growing quickly and wants to grow its team alongside it
  • A supportive, small-team environment where your contributions are visible and valued

We are committed to an inclusive hiring process and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a short cover letter (in English) describing your language abilities and any relevant experience to chun@jhcfamilylaw.com. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
